Summary: Now she was caught once again, only this time he wasn't across the room.

The first time Hermione thought she felt Sirius' eyes lingering on her she convinced herself that it was all in her head, a paranoid by product of her near constant fantastical daydreaming. Of course, this did nothing to quell her nervous system's automatic response because whether his soft attention was merely perceived or in fact a real event, her reaction to it would have been the same. The tingle of awareness that tickled along her spine was cold and quiet, like the first flakes of Christmas snow on her face.

When she actually caught him staring at her, he didn't look away, but brazenly held her gaze in his mesmerizing hurricane eyes. She was shocked and startled, feeling distantly like prey, like a virgin caught in a vampire's thrall until he finally released her, looking away with a small smile playing at the corner's of his mouth.

Now she was caught once again, only this time he wasn't across the room. This time he was close enough for her to feel his warmth which seemed to radiate from him, much like his charm and gregarity. Oddly enough, at this distance, it wasn't his eyes that were fascinating her, it was his mouth. That same smile seemed to threaten, the one that was just a little bit wise, like he was remembering the punchline to a particularly filthy joke.

And then it was neither his eyes nor his mouth that drew her attention but his hand with its long, strong and roughly textured fingers, wrapped gently around the bones in her wrist, the thumb of which was caressing tenderly over the back of her hand. A decision had been made, conclusions drawn, and it struck her that she really shouldn't be as surprised as she in fact seemed to be. Sirius was hardly the type to consider whether or not this was a good idea or whether his affection for her conformed to societal expectation. Sirius was the type to take an opportunity to go after something he wanted; something she wanted too. She was the one who would question and second guess and weigh options and make lists and...

Lips, soft and warm with gentle pressure upon hers short circuited her thought process and her wide, surprised eyes were held once again, trapped in his storm.

I really like Hermione in this... she feels... very much the Hermione that we know from the books. Sometimes I forget about that Hermione but... this is definitely her. And I very much love the "tingling of awareness".

Thank you. I like Hermione from the books and it is a huge compliment that you see her here. I really do try to stay close to her.

Very sweet and true to cannon, not an easy task with our pairing ;) -

*pinches arm*
You know, you're one of the people that sold me on this ship and I am having a ridiculous, giggling fangirl moment because you commented on something I wrote. I really enjoy your writing. I thought you had left fandom so its been a treat to see you come back.

Thank you. I do try to stay close to canon so I'm very pleased that you see that here.

EDIT: And by canon I mean their personalities and how they behave. Canon events get tossed out the window after book 5 for me.

I don't like you very much! *pouts*

This was awesome, but I seriously want to throw Hermione off a cliff and take her place....

Actually, I think I want to do that in every fic. *sigh*

Anyways, besides my pathetic attempt at ranting, beautiful work! Anything with Sirius smile or smirking makes me cackle like a hyena on drugs.

LOL.

*cackle*

What?

You love me, you little liar!

You know, I wrote a bio!fic once for a friend where I wrote a tiny little one shot, just a few hundred words or so to cheer her up, and in it I paired her with Sirius. It is some of the hardest writing I have ever done.

I wanted to show his smirk rather than say he was smirking so I am so pleased that you caught that. I was worried it wouldn't translate.

oh.... *sigh*

and... hurricane eyes? mmmmmmm... I really liked that. Delicious words!

Hee! Thanks! Happy to make you sigh!

I changed that around a dozen times because I wasn't sure if it worked. That you find it delicious is good news!

"That same smile seemed to threaten, the one that was just a little bit wise, like he was remembering the punchline to a particularly filthy joke."

I loved this line since it describes Sirius so very well.

I also loved how, in the 2nd to last paragraph, you nail Hermione and her active thought processes, and how Sirius' kiss short-circuits it. Well done.

More than anything I really liked the mood, pacing, and voice. Beautiful.

I have been working on getting better at showing the reader, rather than telling. The fact that line worked so well for you is thrilling for me because I played around with it for awhile trying to get it right.

I'm pleased Hermione comes across clearly. As I wrote this I imagined a Sirius that had been watching her for awhile and has a pretty firm grasp of what is likely going on in her head. He doesn't want to engage in this dialog, he needs to stop and redirect the focus on him. I'm so happy it worked!
