The morning delivery of the Daily Prophet was early; odd, as it was Sunday. With his ear to the door, Remus heard Sirius’ footsteps pad across the carpet and then change to a click on the kitchen’s wood floors. Ever so carefully, Remus slowly tiptoed into the kitchen. He peeked in and felt a surge of triumph.

I’ve got you now, Padfoot, he thought. Sirius had pulled out the sports section and was holding it at arm’s length, squinting to read the text.

“You know,” said Remus, easing around the door and leaning against the jamb, his tone drier than the Sahara. “If you’d like, I could sit across from you and hold the paper up.”

Sirius slammed the paper down, looking like a child caught with his hand in the biscuit tin. “Remus! I thought you were-”

“In the bathroom,” finished Remus, as he stepped fully into the kitchen. “I’m aware of that. When were you going to tell me you needed glasses?”

Sirius straightened his back. “I don’t need glasses. I just see better when the print is farther away.”

Remus snorted. “They have a name for that you know; it’s called far-sighted.”

“You see,” said Sirius, chin lifted arrogantly. “My vision has improved; I can see things that are far away.”

“Oh, of course,” said Remus sarcastically. “How silly of me. When you have to hold the paper three feet away to read the print, that is an obvious improvement.”

“I’ll look silly in glasses,” muttered Sirius, pouting.

Remus took his seat beside Sirius and ran fingers into his hair. “I think,” Remus said, placing kisses along Sirius’ neck, “that the word you’re looking for is sexy.”

Your So Vain should be the official Sirius Black anthem.

And thank you. I'm still just so surprised!

Congrats on the win!
This was such an awesome drabble, [livejournal.com profile] ceredwensirius. You had me from the moment I realized that Remus and Sirius were growing old together. I can definitely see Sirius struggle with his fading looks and fading abilities and try to hide it from Remus. I loved:

“You know,” said Remus, easing around the door and leaning against the jamb, his tone drier than the Sahara. “If you’d like, I could sit across from you and hold the paper up.”

and

“I think,” Remus said, placing kisses along Sirius’ neck, “that the word you’re looking for is sexy.”

Well done!

Aw, thank you so much! I am denial over their deaths; they totally grow old together in my head with Sirius having meltdowns over grey hair and Remus finding it amusing.

May I share in your head!canon then because that sounds so lovely? There aren't nearly enough 'growing old together' R/S fics out there.

Mi casa, es su casa. You are free to share in the awesomeness that lives in my head.

Veil? What veil? We don't need no stinking veil.
