I was without internet yesterday which totally sucked. Some sort of maintenance. Blargh.

Anyway, so I mentioned in this post that if Snape/Lupin can have a remix, than Sirius/Remus should for damn sure have one. I was hoping that some wonderful soul would say "I'll do it" but instead everyone said "you do it." Sigh. Then after much denying and whining on my part [livejournal.com profile] eprime  and [livejournal.com profile] rhye  said that they would help me mod it. [livejournal.com profile] museme87  wants to run some sort of Marauder fest and I asked her if we could coordinate scheduling. Of course, I said that not having a schedule.

So, here is what I know. I am pretty sure that [livejournal.com profile] emilyia  and I are going to run [livejournal.com profile] rs_career_fest  again next year. We'll probably start it a little sooner to give folks more time to write. l was originally thinking January but we could push it to March to open up prompting and post in July instead of June. I haven't spoken to her in awhile (I think she is suffering the ravages of school!death) so that is a little up in the air.

So what I am asking of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] eprime  and [livejournal.com profile] rhye  is what about sign-ups in January with plenty of advertising before hand and posting in April? I won't have much to do with [livejournal.com profile] rs_career_fest  in April because people will be writing.

I'd also love to hear general thoughts from those who would be participating on this schedule idea of mine. I've got to return to work now, but I'll answer comments and join the discussion when I get home.

That time frame definitely works for me, and I think it's a good time frame in general. Do you think we should try and run some sort of poll to try and gauge how willing people would be to participate, both at all and within that time frame?

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

I thought about it at work some more and started to worry it was a little close together. But then I think about all the Drarry fests and they have good participation. So, yeah, maybe a poll. For a remix we'd need people to have at least 5 R/S stories so that there is some choice.

I have never gotten a poll to work. The poll wizard hates me, but a poll on [livejournal.com profile] remusxsirius would probably be good.

From: [identity profile] eprime.livejournal.com

Three months seems a pretty decent amount of time. I know that Remix Redux allows remixing of drabbles, and that helps on qualifying people.

Maybe a poll isn't really necessary. It is a long while for people to plan in advance. Maybe just advertising it a lot before sign up is the best bet. But I can set up poll Sunday or any time after that if we want to do that. I just have to buckle down and write tonight and tomorrow.

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

Well, advertising is a must. We've got plenty of time to set up the comm and decide how we want to go about matching people up.

I do think a poll would be a good idea. I think [livejournal.com profile] rhye has a point, that if we build a nice comm, make the rules clear and easy to understand, and generally appear to have things under control people will comm. But a poll does gauge the level of interest pre-bombarding with banner adverts and is in itself a way to advertise.

From: [identity profile] rhye.livejournal.com

Sounds good to me! I think, if we build it, they will come, regardless of the dates.

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

You maybe right. I did some more thinking about the dates at work and it might be a little close together. I may be wrong though because the career fest and the games were really close together and both have good participation. I dunno. There are a ton of fests for Drarry and they all have participation so maybe I'm worrying for no good reason.

F.Y.I.

This sort of pertains and yet doesn't.

Yesterday, while you were absent, [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom did some shuffling. They made some new pairings monthly regulars and dropped three older ones for "lack of volunteers." The dropped both Snupin and Snarry! I HAVE NO idea how they didn't anticipate the uproar. I actually think the fans that say one of the mods has it in for them my be right.
The reason this affects Remus/Sirius is that amongst the uproar, things have been said like that the mods at [livejournal.com profile] crack_brom want to see 5 to 8 people in line to rec a pairing. Some os the outraged fans mentioned things like whether the pairing is active with fests, history (past recs log) and how many different people are interested in recommending the pairing at [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom. Honestly, our line is never long and I'm usually on it. Several other back benches have been the same like femmeslash and Remus/Tonks.
As you might imagine, the Snupin and Snarry peeps called out their vast troops to bombard the [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom mods, who have dug in and said that they will reconsider the suspension in December. But if they could move to make Snape/Harry and Snape/Lupin rare pairs, it could happen to us too.

Re: F.Y.I.

i guess i need to go check out crack broom. i dont want the pups put on the back burner. and how the effing hell did snarry of all ships have a lack of volunteers

From: [identity profile] werewolfsfan.livejournal.com

Re: F.Y.I.

It seems most fans don't want to commit to a months worth of reccing six months or more in advance. I totally see this and agree. I only call for volunteers in the [livejournal.com profile] rs_prophet when we are down to one! So the Snarry and Snupin people had maybe one or two people on line when the mods decided to boot them with almost no notice! The reason that I don't want to see Remus/Sirius become a "rare" ship there is it puts you in the same category as the likes of Slughorn/Dumbledore and Hermione/Marcus Flint!
Snupin and Snarry have now mobilized the troops and they have something like 10 to 15 volunteers each but the mods aren't budging on their suspension. As I said last week in the [livejournal.com profile] rs_prophet, nosy editor is NOSY. You can count on me to watch this situation now but who would have thought [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom would demote Snarry! They are promising new rules next week but them dames is CRAZY!

Re: F.Y.I.

Holy. Shit.

I just read through all the comments. WTF does that one mod have against Snarry and Snupin? I will admit to not being a fan of either pairing, but they are huge pairings and if they can get bumped off, so can we.

In fact, if that is their criteria, why didn't we get the boot? Do you really think that mod has a grudge? Because damn, they all just kept repeating the same thing over and over. The arguments were really good, especially from [livejournal.com profile] _lore and the mods just were not hearing it.

Also, Ron/Pansy? Really? Really? I didn't realize that pairing had any organization to it at all.

I am going to make a post on [livejournal.com profile] remusxsirius. I think maybe folks don't know it can happen.

From: [identity profile] werewolfsfan.livejournal.com

Re: F.Y.I.

The timing seems like divine intervention. It just so happens that our line up was a bit longer than usual thanks to you and [livejournal.com profile] eprime deciding to give it a whorl. There were many times when the line was just me and I was afraid we would be booted. Also, once around May, I was down for something else and blue that no one but me seemed to care and I actually let the line go to NO ONE to shake up the fans.

We are currently covered through February of next year so we are probably okay until after the mods clarify the criteria for keeping an ongoing slot. But my head is still reeling over the idea that they COULD ever think of downgrading Snape/Harry or Snape/Lupin! They were actually for the next month or two!

But it's demoralizing to have the major rec site say you're very not important to fandom anymore. which is how I would take demotion out of the monthly line up.

But, yeah, I'm scraching my head over Harry/Snape is out but Ron/Draco is happenin'!

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

Re: F.Y.I.

Ron/Pansy is the one I don't get. Are there an overwhelming number of Ron/Pansy fests that I am unaware of? Is Ron/Pansy the new black?

I don't care for Snupin as a pairing, but I recognize its popularity. I really do think that the mods made a mistake or as [livejournal.com profile] _lore said so cryptically to [livejournal.com profile] tarie Considering our history, where you made clear your feelings about this pairing I just have to wonder if there isn't something to it. Two very popular Snape pairings are gone from the permanent status roster which does make it at least look like there is some Snape-hate going on.

From: [identity profile] werewolfsfan.livejournal.com

Re: F.Y.I.

I don't follow that pairing and I'm not prone to paranoia and I think [livejournal.com profile] _lore and the others have a point. I believe they are about as active a fandom as Remus/Sirius. Snarry is a HUGE and active fandom.

This was the only warning of danger and it was only 1 1/2 days before the ax fell:

Some of your regularly-flown favorite pairings/categories are in serious danger of being removed as a monthly feature!

Harry/Ron has absolutely NO ONE in the current queue.

Threesomes is only covered for August.

Snape/Harry and Crossovers are only covered through September.

Femmeslash, Ron/Hermione, Draco/Hermione, and Snape/Lupin are only covered through October.

Spread the word, get folks to sign up!!! Individual sign-up pages are HERE.

Why out of that selection, would you drop Snarry and Snupin? And they did this in the summertime and while a convention is going on!

Some of the NextGen fans are very vocal. They weren't satisfied with just one opening per month. I think the real issue is that out of the several that rotate that slot, some rec only M/M pairings and some like only F/M pairings. Also, they want a monthly slot for NextGen-CrossGen for Draco/Rose, Harry/Albus ect. The soul of the complaint is BECAUSE THE NEXT GEN LINE IS ALWAYS MONTHS LONG. AND THE MODS WILL ONLY ALLOW CROSS GEN FROM THE HUGE "RARE PAIRS" LINE. Basically, I don't think many fan want to wait on a line more than three months but the mods want the lines to be more like 6 to 8 months long! What a joy!

I knew that Draco/Ginny was picking up momentum in their quest for a monthly spot. And I get why Rose/Scorpius and Al/Scorpius. But isn't it funny that [livejournal.com profile] tarie, the senior mod, is in line to rec Ron/Draco?

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

Re: F.Y.I.

Wait, wait, wait. Are you saying that Draco/Hermione, Ron/Hermione and Femmeslash (according to the what the mods warning said) were in the EXACT SAME POSITION as Snape/Lupin and only Snape/Lupin got the boot out of that list?

I'm not prone to paranoia either and this just looks fishy. Especially with [livejournal.com profile] tarie in line to rec one of the new pairings.

I'm not as in touch with the Next Gen parts of fandom. I kinda like Teddy/James but only kinda. I can completely understand adding popular next gen pairs if there is a clamoring for them, but I do not understand the demotion of Snape/Lupin.

And that warning, a day and half before the axe, is really poor administration. They run the comm, it is their job to communicate well with the watchers of the comm. That is the job of ANY mod.

Re: F.Y.I.

That's why I feel that [livejournal.com profile] _lore and co were relatively restrained in their outrage and kept their finger pointing more general instead of saying why did you cut us and not them?
It was purely a miracle that Remus/Sirius happened to have a longer queue right now. The last four, including Ron/Hermine, had three months worth of reccers in reserve!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

*takes a breath*

*laughs some more*

I KNEW you wouldn't be able to resist!! Fest piled upon fest has never been an issue for me so count me in unless something drastic happens.

I'm doing alright. Not exactly back, since my hostel supervisor is a cow, and refuses, for some non-reason, to hand out data cables, but, yes. Around.

How you doin'?

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

That hag! Why won't she hand out data cables? Like at all? Ever? She completely refuses? I hate her!

I'm better and apparently sucked into fest modding. Speaking of which, we need to plan ours.

From: [identity profile] ceredwensirius.livejournal.com

What the hell s her deal?

Okay, we need a schedule and we need prompts. We should decide before hand what every weeks challenge will be. We also need to advertise, but I have no banner making skills. I can't ask Andrea because that trio gives her the heebee jeebees.

From: [identity profile] toujours-nigel.livejournal.com

I can make banners if i can lay my hands on good art and/or photoshop. so by monday, hopefully, i can start on that.

In principle I think that's a great idea. I remixed a R/S fic by [personal profile] such_heights for Remix Redux 09 & had a great time with it. I think they're a good pairing for remixing, & I might well participate in such a fest if I don't have too many others things going on.

What happened is that cliche moment in movies where the person who suggests the good idea gets volunteered to do it. I've started 2 comms that way, so I know how you feel! One of my flisters has organised several remix fests, & the sense I get is that it's much like doing an exchange fest, so you would need pinch-hitters but it needn't be a logistical nightmare. Remix Redux posts the pinch hits to a google comm & people claim them if they've got some spare time, so maybe that approach would work for you?
