Winter Fests and Exchanges

I realize this is probably a crazy thing to be thinking about in the middle of summer, but... harry_holidays  sign ups are going on now, which is why I thought of it. So...... what are my options, guys? What winter fests are you doing? I know that I'll be doing something for daily_deviant  and rs_small_gifts  and I've been toying with the idea of hp_yule_balls , but I don't know what else is out there to choose from. I promised myself that I would not load myself down with fest fics this year but come September I won't have anything to write about and I will have missed the sign ups. I suspect this will make me whiny. When do sign ups for rs_small_gifts  start? Couldn't I have either the harry_holidays  or hp_yule_balls (I am NOT NOT NOT doing both) fic wrapped up before sign ups for rs_small_gifts  even got off the ground? Same for daily_deviant . Ack. Are there any other Remus/Sirius fests? Oh, oh! There is brighty18 's fest, isn't there? I didn't do it last year because I was swamped at work.


Oh, oh, oh! Speaking of which. I ran across something today! crack_broom  is hazardous for my writing. I end up reading pairings I don't even like. And worse! No Sirius! *gasps*

Anyway, over at lupin_snape  (don't ask me why I was reading there, I don't even like the pairing) they have a remix challenge just for that pairing. Why doesn't Remus/Sirius have that (does not want to mod another fest, does not want to mod another fest, does not want to mod another fest)? Remus/Sirius should totally have that. Someone needs to get on that pronto. Not me.

I think I will be signing up for harry_holidays for sure, and probably all the rest you mentioned because I can't resist. But what is brighty18's fest?

I don't know where I would squeeze it in. Never mind, I didn't say that because I'm not doing it. I think emilyia and I are going to do rs_career_fest earlier in the year next year to give people more time to write. So I don't know where I'd put it. Shit. Not me, not me.

Hm, find out how the other ones do it? Seems like it would be a lot easier to do for a single pairing remix than multi-fandom. I know that Remix Redux doesn't allow you to specifiy pairings, only fandoms. It could be a random match up instead of trying to match people up to specifics. It's more of a challenge maybe for the writer, but at least you know you'll have a body of work to choose from that is R/S. And there has to be a pool of at least five fics to choose from or something like that.

I wonder how many people in the R/S writing pool would sign up, though.

I have no experience managing this sort of thing, but I would be willing to help. ;)

Neither do I, not a remix, and here is what makes me nervous about it. Every fest has dropouts. Every. Fest. So then we'd need pinch hitters.

I need to mull this over. I need to consider rules and such and then I need to have my head checked for even considering doing this.

If I do decide to do this, you really would help?

Yeah, the dropping out is a big deal. I just took at look at Remix Redux 8 and they had a total of 283 works, 23 of which were HP and I think only 9 were Remus/Sirius. I wonder if there would be more of response for a strictly R/S remix or not.

On another note, their pinch hitting strategy seemed to work well, but then it is a huge and very popular, multi-fandom remix.

Okay. I should just stop fighting it at this point. Who am I kidding? Let me send musesfool a PM and see if she doesn't mind if we borrow her rules and such. Also, rhye wants in. So that's three mods.

We need a timeline. And probably a separate post to discuss just this.

If we had a long writing period, say, sign ups in September, fics due in January, that might work. What do you think? Need to ask rhye as well.

rhye is out of town for a few days, so we can let it all gel in our brains a bit and discuss it further when she returns.

Remix Redux has been going on for many, many years. There used to be much more HP and many GREAT R/S remixs have resulted. I adore remix.......

Yeah, I'm sure back in the heyday of HP Fandom there were a ton. I love remixes, too. It will be cool if this works out and there is a decent level of participation. *crosses fingers*
