People see Snape as a byronic hero, and I find it terribly irritating. He has done so many unforgivable things in the past that it's mind boggling. I don't think people realize it. It doesn't help that Alan Rickman does make an amazing Snape. Not to mention the fact that Rickman was privy to the Lily & Snape DH spoiler from the PS/SS movie, and he acts with that knowledge.
I think Sirius is a different kind of douche from Snape. Sirius' emotional growth got stunted when he was wrongfully imprisoned in Azkaban for 12 years and he lost the man he considered a brother. Snape, on the other hand, is a douche because the girl got away. Only, you know, he was the cause of that. Don't hang around with people who kill Muggles and Muggle-borns for fun if you want the Muggle-born girl to like you. And definitely don't call her a Mudblood. Ugh, Snape is just a mess and I can't stand him.
