They were celebrating, just James and Sirius, when curses began flying across the Muggle pub.
"What the-" Sirius has just downed another shot of firewhisky and clambored to his feet, swaying unsteadily.
"Come on," says James irritably. "I won't be a father for long if we stick around.
When they make it to safety, the nearness of death grips them both. There is a need of a more carefree time, a time of boyhood and innocence.
Which doesn't come easily in an alley that stinks of retch and piss while hiding from Death Eaters, but somehow they manage.
