“Tell me again what we’re doing here?” The smoky bar with a stage, a microphone standing smack in the middle of it and an elaborate sound system was a curiosity to Hermione.
“We’re here to witness a crime against humanity,” said Remus dryly. He gave the stage a black look and then shook his head, chuckling.
“I don’t understand,” said Hermione, smiling. She understood his sarcasm but not what it was referring to.
“You will,” said Remus with a sigh. “You will, and god as my witness, this was the least embarrassing of all the half brewed Valentine gift ideas your husband came up with.”
Hermione’s lips quirked, an affectionate smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. “Tonks, do you know what is going on?”
“Yes, but Sirius gave me a vivid description of the Hex he’ll use on me if I spoil the, uh…”
“Oh, go ahead and say surprise,” said Remus sarcastically. “It’ll be one of the emotions she experiences.”
“This isn’t one of those stand up comedy clubs is it?” asked Hermione. “Is he going to be delivering jokes?”
“Not on purpose,” answered Remus, his tone blank. Hermione mashed her lips together to keep from laughing at Remus’ ‘straight man’ delivery.
Lights flickered and then began to strobe as a catchy pop hit from a few decades earlier began the opening bars.
“Oh, I love this song,” crowed Hermione.
“That’s about to change,” said Remus snarkily.
The lights in the bar dimmed to darkness. A hot spotlight opened onto the stage in time to catch Sirius in a smooth slide onto the stage, literally, with a big grin and ostentatious wink for his girl. His hip bumped in and out in time to the song’s beat in wild exaggeration of anything close to being considered a standard dance move.
“His voice is too deep for this song!” said Hermione, trying not to collapse into a fit of giggles.
“Tell me something I don’t know,” said Remus, shaking his head.
“Candy girl! You are my world!”
