A distant wailing, muffled through a few closed doors, was suddenly silenced. Shoving off the sheet and blanket, she toed her feet into a pair of slippers and then pulled on a pink satin house robe as she shuffled to the bedroom door. The cool air in the hallway, unaltered by warming charms, gave her a little shiver. The hallway was dark except for a sliver of light coming from under a doorway. As she opened the door her breath caught in her throat as it always did. There in the middle of the room was Sirius, holding their daughter, softly singing her back to sleep in his arms.
