People see Snape as a byronic hero, and I find it terribly irritating.
Oh, vomit. He was bought and paid for by Dumbledore. I don't think you can say a person fit into the hero category if they were willing to hand a baby over to an evil overlord to be killed. He was ready to to have James and Harry killed and take Lily for himself, by magic ala Merope and Tom Riddle if necessary.
Well, I think Sirius has character flaws from a young age and some of that can be attributed to his upbringing. I struggle sometimes when I write to fit the Prank into how I characterize and try to avoid making him a sweet, soppy puppy because I don't think that is who he is. Those character flaws didn't go anywhere when he sat in Azkaban and probably just got worse along with the added psychological damage he incurred. And yes, being stunted around 22. But still, 22 is an adult, a young adult, but he was on his own and looked after himself with a generous inheritance. So I don't think not letting him mature at all works either, at least not for me.
Don't hang around with people who kill Muggles and Muggle-borns for fun if you want the Muggle-born girl to like you. And definitely don't call her a Mudblood. Ugh, Snape is just a mess and I can't stand him.
