Well I think there was an issue of the DH Snape and Lily thing that sort of swayed people towards (what we lilyjames_fest mods have dubbed) "Snevans". I don't really understand it, but that's what I'm told by my co-mod who was involved in the Lily/James fandom at the time. That, coupled with the fact that James is one of the most hated characters in the book, doesn't bode well for Lily/James. It's really sad and frustrating because their love is most definitely canon.
